Update #17

Last night was the final chance to see each of the candidates together and ask questions before election day. Great questions were asked by our audience, including questions taken from high school students. Thank you to all the supporters and voters who braved the rain to hear each candidate express their views. I would also like to thank All Nations Church, The Dockett Foundation and Councilman Rod Jennings as well as the other candidates for providing choice in this election.

In exactly a week voters will have the choice to continue with the current board or to go in another direction. At this critical time it is important to have an experienced team of board members working in tandem with administration to answer the concerns of our learning community members. We must continue to move forward with a clear vision and culture of excellence for the entire community. That is why I am asking for your vote on April 3rd and your continued support for the youth and School District of University City. with ALL hands on deck we can truly make positive changes for OUR children and make SDUC a beacon of excellence in education? Whose with me?

More Info

Over the past three years I've had the privilege to serve on the Board of Education.  During that time, I've been part of a team that hired an outstanding new superintendent, voted to provide free breakfast and lunch for all students, and sold surplus property. I'm excited to continue the journey for excellence in education through programs like Learning Reimagined and Restorative Practices. Implementing these programs with fidelity and accountability by the board is key, and I know I am up for the job.

I chose University City as home over 10 years ago, because of the great communities and world class tradition of public education. As a mother of three boys in the district (1 at BW and 2 at Pershing), I understand first hand the concerns parents who choose to send their children to our schools. Since coming to University City I've

If re-elected I want continue to provide support for the Administration while implementing Learning Re-imagined and Restorative Practice. These programs are vital to student learning and changing the culture for better. I also want to continue advocating for expansion of our early childhood program. I am fortunate to have sent all three boys through Julia Goldstein; that vital experience should be available to more University City Pre-K families.

As a Board Member, I take my role seriously as an advocate for the District. I would like to see improved communications throughout the district, so that families, community members and the region know the wonderful opportunities such as Project Based Learning, a new Bio-medical class, Robotics in every school, and so much more.

If elected, I am committed to being open minded about all issues coming before the Board. I will only make decisions after careful consideration with the fellow Directors and keep the best interest of Students, Parents, Staff, and Community in mind.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Update #16

Thanks to generous donors like you, I was able to purchase more yard signs today. With all the excitement around my campaign I am low again. There are only 8 days left we have to reach as many voters as possible. Can you donate to my campaign today to ensure this happen?

This week I plan to walk neighborhoods and knock on as many doors as possible. This weekend I was able to reach at least 50 residents who are either excited about my campaign or have heard great things about the work I've done in the community. If you feel the same, I'd love for you to join me on the campaign trail or as a poll volunteer on April 3rd. Please contact me on Facebook: Kristine Hendrix, Director of UCity BOE; Email:kristinehendrixucity@gmail.com; Phone: 314-852-2928.

Thanks again to everyone who has supported my campaign. Whether you told your friends and neighbors to vote for me or you've contributed money I appreciate everything you've done and look forward to continuing to serve you as a Director of Education in the School District of University City.

Update #15

Twelve Days left in the campaign, but no time to rest. This week I have spent Monday and Wednesday knocking on doors in the 3rd and 1st ward. I've been very excited to knock on doors where residents have already received my postcard or heard great things about me from family and friends. Community members have been speaking about issues with the school district and the perception that University City is no longer a great District. With an effective board, a highly capable Superintendent and staff, and the most amazing youth, I know that we can end that perception.

It will take the collective effort of everyone to ensure this happens, but it starts with electing me on April 3rd. I have a great reputation on the board as being easy to work with and being a strong advocate for the entire learning community. The Board and Administration have come so far and now is not the time to change course. We must continue the strategies of Learning Re-imagined and continue to make our schools trauma informed as well as integrated with restorative practice.

While we are so close to raising our goal of $3,000 we still have a short way to go. A donation of $10 or more will help me continue to reach voters. The campaign is also currently looking for poll volunteers to reach voters who may not have made a decision before going to vote. If you have any time to volunteer Tuesday April 3rd, please contact me at your earliest convenience.

Thank you to everyone who has supported my campaign and continues to move it forward. Your help is welcomed and appreciated.

Update #14

Today my youngest son helped me campaign. He is a great help too! We knocked on so many doors. However, there are only 3 weeks left in the campaign and I am still short of my campaign goal. There is so much work still to do and so many more voters to reach. I just ordered new literature and signs, but it seems I am giving it out as soon as I get it.

Please consider donating to my campaign to ensure I am re-elected to the SDUC School Board or please inbox me on FB: Kristine Hendrix, University City Board of Education to volunteer to knock on doors or to help out at the polls on April 3rd. Tomorrow we will be out in the community knocking on doors in the third ward. Please join us at noon tomorrow (3/14) and Thursday (3/15) at the Starbucks on North & South and Delmar.

Thank you for your continued support.

Update #12

Thank you to everyone who is supporting my campaign. We have come a long way, but we have less than 30 days to tell University City why I should continue to serve on the School Board. This weekend has been busy attending a meet and greet hosted by Linda Fried and the WIN Forum (Women In the Neighborhood), hosted by Kristen Sobtka. I appreciate the support and the community members who gave up their weekend to participate in this important process.

Please tell your friends and neighbors to vote Kristine Hendrix on April 3rd. Our new superintendent is making changes and improvements; we need a board that is willing to support her work with fidelity and accountability.

Update #11

Yesterday my campaign team hit the streets and was able to talk to people in University City about the up coming school board election. I met a wonderful woman by the name of Kitt Underwood who was a former UCHS teacher. She was happy I came by her house and heard good things about me and the direction the board is going.

With the help of my supporters, the campaign has reached 50% of our fundraising goal. Your support will help me get out more campaign material to ensure that I am re-elected.

Thank you for your support.

Today I had the pleasure of attending two coffees hosted by Community members Cindy Thierry and Sarah Hanley for Board member Soudah and I. We had great discussions about the wonderful programs in our schools as well as areas of opportunity. We have 43 days left in the campaign. I hope I can count on your support and most importantly your vote.

Update #9

I met Renay Allen yesterday at the First Unitarian Church in Exeter, New Hampshire. She received an acknowledgement for her activism from her congregation. She has been very involved in her community and organized around the Women's March in New Hampshire in memory of the Suffragettes, knowing that black women were not included. So, she created a sash with the words Black Lives Matter. On the back she had different colored hearts representing all disenfranchised groups she stands with in solidarity.
Today she put her solidarity in action by supporting my campaign. I'm grateful to have met Renay and appreciate her support.

Update #7

Last week I had the pleasure of stopping by Barbara C Jordan Elementary school with Board Director Addison. We wanted to say hi to the children who participated in the picture from BCJ during School Board Appreciation Week.

When Director Addison and I reached the school these two young men were in the office. We had a great talk about friendship, forgiveness and treating each other how we want to be treated. We worked through a friendship issue and each student was able to tell me what they liked about each other. The conversation was natural for the boys, because children want the principles of restorative practice.

When we met with Prinicipal Chenelle DuBose and Ms. Atkins we were given a great tour of student learning and activities taking place during the month of February. Definitely support the wonderful educational opportunities happening during Black History Month especially the Royal Ball Feb. 21st 6:30-8 pm.

Update #4

Equations is one of the many great activities happening in the School District of University City. watching the excitement of the young people learning and solving math problems using critical thinking is great. As a Board member I hope to create space for more opportunities like this to exist for ALL students in University City. this tournament there were two #UCity teams one from Brittany Woods and the other from Flynn Park.

Congratulations to Flynn Park for winning 2nd place and congratulations to the team at Brittany for their first team participation. Congratulations to all the winning and participating teams.

Update #3

I had a great night with University City education Foundation (UCEF) at their Come and Play event in the Brittany Woods Middle School Library. UCEF is a non profit organization that partners with the School District Of University City to bring incredible experiences to youth in our schools. Tonight the #UCityRoboLions gave a demonstration on their new 3-D printer, that was purchased with grant money from UCEF.
I also had a student give me an excellent demonstration and explanation of this new and emerging technology.
