From the desk of Jason Adkins - Jeremy's brother

Thousands of you have watched and prayed with Jeremy and his family as they watched their beloved Kristina suffer through the unthinkable.  As she lay in a coma, I sat beside my brother each night and listened to him read her every message you sent to his precious wife.  You wrote the last week of evening prayers for this wonderful couple, still bound together by the mystery of love across divides we cannot comprehend.  “For love is stronger than death.”  After reviewing the latest MRI and CT scans, we received the firm conclusions from the doctors that we have feared and dreaded—that Kristina’s mortal life will not be restored to us.  As extraordinary as it is, I wasn’t shocked to hear my brother say, “I still give praise to God.”  From the beginning of this crisis, Jeremy has embodied the good that he has insisted God would bring out of this terrible situation: he has clung to God, praying at every turn, and hoping that others would see the hand of God at work.  A week ago, Jeremy told me, “God has me either way.”  This is not the way we would have chosen, but we have all witnessed Jeremy remaining true to his word.

We do not believe that Kristina’s death means that our hopes and prayers were in vain.  We do not believe that God is the author of death but the One who has conquered death and the grave.  God has not promised that we will not die but promises that death does not have the final word.  No one who dies in His love is ever lost.  We believe that God has brought this host of witnesses around this terrible event to awaken his Body to the love to which they are called, that they might surround Jeremy and his beautiful girls with care and comfort, to witness how God will bring this family to heal and thrive, and finally to draw others into the love of God.

This is exactly what is happening.  Already, people who have no belief in God have expressed wonder at the extravagant acts of love poured out by First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale and the whole body of Christ across the nation and the world.  Followers of Christ, such as me, have been renewed in the faith that God is at work in the world through His Body and by His powerful Spirit.  God’s work through this situation is only at its beginning.  Who knows where it will end?

Jeremy made commitments to God that he is keeping, and he also made promises to Kristina over this past week that he was going to take care of their girls.  One of the bitter-sweet realities of this story is the closeness of the family.  Kristina homeschooled her four girls out of a desire to be close to them and to give them a Christian education.  Though these girls spent more time with their mother than most children get in a lifetime, Kristina was all the more their world.  Now Jeremy faces the challenge of raising five girls without Kristina.

In addition to the emotional turmoil he will have to navigate, the practical challenges that Jeremy faces are considerable.  How are the girls to be educated and cared for in the absence of their mother? He has lost not only his daughters’ teacher but a co-provider who worked as a nurse to care financially alongside Jeremy for the family.  His thoughts are already on sending his five girls to a Christian school, and while there will be many financial needs ahead for the family, this is the one foremost on Jeremy’s mind.  We know that the care of her girls was always first on Kristina’s mind and we want to honor her by helping provide care where she no longer can.

Many have asked for a way to donate to the family and some of you have already done so.  If you would like to donate directly to Jeremy, you can do so now through the Fundly Facebook App.

FBC Fort Lauderdale has set up a tax deductable fund account for Kristina's Girls. If you would like to contribute a tax deductable gift to the Kristina's Girls Fund, please send checks to:

First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale

301 E Broward Blvd

Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301

For purposes of tax deduction, DO NOT write Kristina's Girls Fund on the check, but label it as such with a sticky note or an enclosed note.

From Jeremy and Kristina’s family, thank you for the extravagant love with which you have surrounded this family during this tragedy.  It has been a bright light in a very dark night.  Stay connected and watch with us to see how God will bring beauty from these ashes.

Peace of Christ, Jason Adkins
