Meet Mady!

She is a beautiful, smart and talented senior at Penny High School in Hamilton.  In November 2019, we had to move out of the Hamilton School District due to circumstances out of our control.  This move could have been detrimental to her success.  So we are doing the only thing we can as parents and allowing Mady to graduate from Penny High School.  But that comes with a hefty tuition bill we did not plan for.  Our family is looking for ways to help fund this unexpected expense.  Can you help?

Mady is the second oldest of 5 girls.  Mike is a fire fighter/paramedic at Liberty Fire Department and I am a Vocational Rehab Counselor.  In 2018, our family made the decision to make Hamilton, Missouri home.  We wanted to raise our children in rural Missouri in a smaller school district and moved from the Kansas City area. After much research we chose Hamilton.  Finding housing in Hamilton proved to be difficult, but we finally found an old farm house to rent.  The house was not in the best of condition but the landlord allowed us to put in new flooring, paint and make some improvements to make it acceptable for our family.

Transitioning to Penny High School was not an easy adjustment for Mady.  Mady had been working with Hazel for 2 years to prepare her to be a fully trained ADA service dog.  Mady started high school with Hazel.  With Hazel by her side she started to thrive but was known as the “girl with the dog” for much of her junior year.  By the start of her senior year, Mady seemed to be accepted by the other students and was fitting in.  Hazel had some set-backs last Fall and in December 2019, Mady made the very hard decision to retire Hazel from service work.  This would mean that she would have to attend school without her safety factor, while she trained a new dog.  While it is not ideal, Mady is finishing her senior year at Penny High School without the added support.

Added to the difficulty with Hazel, we family was in the middle of a health crisis.  We had started noticing health concerns with one of Mady’s sisters and our farm animals in Spring 2019.  We suspected something was wrong with the well water to the house.  As we suspected after testing, the water was contaminated.  We began hunting for rental property in the Hamilton School District.  Community and church members joined the search that came up empty after several months.  We had no choice but to secure housing out of the Hamilton area and moved to Chillicothe.  We have enrolled our younger 3 children in Chillicothe Schools and began looking at all options to allow Mady to graduate from Penny High School.  After evaluating all options, we made the decision for Mady to commute daily to Hamilton.  This was the only decision we could make as her parents, as we feel strongly that Mady needs to graduate from Penny High School.  But this decision comes with a hefty price to pay tuition in a very short period of time.

We need to raise $4000 by graduation in May.  We are asking for any help in achieving our goal.  Our family has many talents such as baking, cleaning, crafting, dog training, and Mike has remodeling skills.  If you would like to donate that would be great, but we are also not afraid to band together as a family and get dirty. Can you please help Mady be academically successful?  We will consider any project that might help fund this need.  She has been accepted to attend UCM in the Fall and become a social worker.  Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
