On the night of April 12, in the small Nebraska town of Minden, Katie Sinsel, a duly elected school board member was arrested, handcuffed and hauled to the police station while attempting to attend a regularly scheduled school board meeting. Her crime? She chose to exercise her first amendment right to not cover her face with an unapproved medical device— a mask. She is facing two bogus criminal charges: disturbing the peace and criminal trespass.
Katie was elected by the citizens of Minden on November 3, 2020 and was sworn in on January 11, 2021. These citizens have now been disenfranchised because, to add insult to injury, the board held a special meeting to vote her off and replace her with her former, losing opponent in the election. Katie has attended every regularly scheduled school board meeting before and since the arrest, yet the Minden board members have publicly stated to the press that she has been absent.
On July 6, NTV news reported that the criminal case had been dropped. Katie was informed that the county clerk had sealed the records in this matter.
However, during the first week of August, Katie received notice from the sheriff informing her that the State of Nebraska was reopening her case. She was given a few short days to find a lawyer, find funding and appear at her arraignment. Katie located a criminal attorney to appear with her but is currently without any funding. The estimate we have received to defend Katie from these criminal charges is $10,000-$25,000.
Katie is standing in the gap for all of us, for our God given rights and freedom. She needs our help NOW. Please pray for God’s will and justice to be served, and for the protection of Katie’s and all of our families' precious constitutional rights.
