More Info

Kasey has purchased a sophisticated astrophotography setup that includes a refractor telescope and computerized equatorial mount. The setup, which will also use her brother's SLR digital camera, will allow her to measure the effects of light pollution on astronomy. She will also use it to learn more about deep space in general.

So far Kasey has spent all of her savings on the current equipment, with additional equipment and supplies still needed. A digital SLR camera and portable laptop are needed for her to complete the setup and fully explore our universe!

The Telescope

The William Optics Gran Turismo 81mm refractor features a CNC machined optical tube with an immaculate white finish and space gray trim. Internally, this refractor contains a 3-element objective using high-quality FPL-53 extra-low dispersion glass to reduce any secondary spectrum to an incredible extent. The three element apochromatic design and FPL-53 glass provide superior optical performance and excellent aberration correction. This 81mm OTA from William Optics comes with a 2.5" Rack & Pinion Focuser, a camera angle rotator, CNC Handle Bar, Bahtinov Mask, Mounting Rings, and Dovetail. Mount this OTA package to a mount and tripod, and you are all set for a fantastic visual observation or imaging session!

The Mount

The Orion Atlas Mount features a fully enclosed, dual-axis DC stepper motors and self-pointing electronics that can pinpoint the location of any celestial target in its 42,900-object database. There are nine slew speeds in this computerized equatorial mount ranging from 2x sidereal to 800x, which translates to a peppy 3.4 degrees per second, and three tracking speeds: sidereal, lunar, and solar.
