About Me

Hi guys! My beautiful partner Erika and I are joining up with Habitat for Humanity International Global Village -Team Wilderness Adventures We will travel to Yogyakarta, Indonesia to build Homes for some needy folks.

More Info

Thanks to a generous sponsership by Wilderness Adventures, this indomitable team of volunteers from Jackson Hole and beyond will build homes with hard-working families in Jogjakarta, Indonesia. Augusta Friendsmith and Craig Kirkpatrick are thrilled to co-lead a dedicated band of friends and family on yet another life-altering adventure!

Based in beautiful Jackson Hole, Wilderness Adventures assists young people in becoming responsible adults by providing the best planned, most superbly led outdoor adventures possible in the most inspirational settings on the planet.

The world’s largest archipelago, Indonesia consists of more than 17,000 islands. But it is also grappling with poverty and a severe shortage of adequate housing.

About 17 percent of the population lives below the poverty line, making less than $1.50 a day, and many more people are classified as “near poor,” vulnerable to even minor changes in their fortunes. Increasingly, poverty is concentrated among rural households that have less access to adequate water and sanitation facilities.

Located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region of seismic and volcanic activity, Indonesia is frequently affected by earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions.

Habitat for Humanity Indonesia, founded in 1997, uses “Building in Stages” and “Save & Build” concepts. The former enables homeowners to start by building a basic core house that can be extended later depending on the family’s means. The Save & Build housing microfinance model enables homeowner partners to benefit from a savings program established by an entire community.

Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program. Teams travel to over 40 countries to work alongside communities, build housing solutions, and experience local culture. Our goal is to change the lives of the people we serve, as well as the lives of the volunteers.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
