SPAN Benewah County started in November 2020 by a group of community members. Most of the members have lost someone to suicide and want to make a difference. Each September, SPAN hosts a Suicide Awareness walk to bring awareness to Suicide Prevention. In the past year, SPAN has started Grief Support Groups that are held once a month, have distributed bracelets and bookmarks around the community and schools with the Suicide Hotline number, and they hold an annual drawing contest for our area schools where the winning drawing is put on a poster distributed around town with the Suicide Hotline. They have also recently created Baskets of Hope filled with materials, resources, and comfort items to give to families experiencing a loss from suicide. Their goal is to get resources in the hands of those who need it most in an effort to remove the stigma surrounding mental health and help prevent suicides in our community. Mental Health is important to me and I would like to help raise money for SPAN to continue their efforts and helping to raise awareness as well.
