Give the gift of an equitable and inclusive learning environment
On January 15, 2015 the lives of fellow community members, Sarah and Pete Breitlander were changed forever when they lost their first-born and only son, Kaiser James. Kaiser was a happy little boy who loved to laugh and make others smile. During the darkest days of their grief, family and friends helped Sarah and Pete establish the Kaiser Breitlander Memorial Fund. During the first 5 years, the fund has raised over $40,000 to help sponsor a special boy named Dustin, who was very close to Kaiser. This scholarship has given Dustin the gift of a quality, bilingual education and has forever impacted his and his family’s life in a positive way.
Building off of the success of the first five years, the goal of the Kaiser Breitlander Memorial Fund is to continue to sponsor not only Dustin, but also many of the other 41 students in the Scholarship Program at La Paz Community School. In particular, the fund will support a wide variety of essential services for La Paz scholarship students including but not limited to special educational services, occupational therapy, educational psychology, and counseling. These special services are essential to ensuring an equitable and inclusive learning environment for local children from underprivileged backgrounds at La Paz.
The Breitlander family has partnered with La Paz Community School and US Non-Profit, World Children’s Project, to significantly expand the impact of Kaiser’s legacy. This year’s goal is to raise $25,000 to support the Kaiser Breitlander Memorial Fund at La Paz Community School. 100% of all donations will be dedicated to assisting Dustin, and other children like him, so that La Paz can continue to provide necessary services and opportunities to students in the scholarship program.
La Paz is recognized as a non-profit association in Costa Rica as well as a qualified recipient of World Children’s Project, a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit organization in the United States. As a result, all donations made from both the USA and Costa Rica are tax deductible in their respective countries.
