Justice and Truth For Mikal Martin

Justice and Truth For Mikal Martin

From Kiyah Lee

Hello! I'm Mikayah, Mikal's little sister. I started this fundraiser because Mikal is coming up on his 10-year deadline for his post-conviction and we need $40,000 for the best post conviction lawyer to get him out.

More Info

My name is Mikayah Lee, I am Mikal's little sister. Mikal is a kind, brave, and extremely intelligent soul. He was convicted back in 2013 at 20 years old, and was sentenced 35 years for 2nd degree murder which he did NOT commit. He was convicted with NO physical evidence that he was at the crime scene, or had any involvement in the murder. They were able to get a conviction because his phone was pinged yards from the murder scene, but he was living and sometimes hung-out near that location. He has currently served eight years, and is coming up on his 10-year deadline for his post-conviction. That means that after 10-years, he can no longer fight for post-conviction and would have to wait another 10 years until he can be eligible for parole.

Our family has fought and fought for him, and we are at a point now where we need help. The only way to get him out now is to win his post-conviction and get him a re-trial. In order to do that we need the BEST lawyer to fight for him. We have put our faith into a lawyer that has won many post-conviction cases in the state of MD. His fee is $50,000, and over the past two years we have raised only $10,000. We need another $40,000 to pay this lawyer in full. We asking for anything you can spare, no amount is too small!

While incarcerated, he has earned his GED and is the head chef at the prison. He enjoys working out, cooking, reading, and teaching/tutoring math.

When Mikal is granted his freedom, he plans to become a mentor for at-risk young men and women, establish and stabilize himself, and possibly open up his own restaurant/food truck. He will strive to never become another stereotype, and break the cycle of young colored prisoners in America

We are calling on anyone with a good heart, that has any funds to spare. We know this is a trying time for everyone, but just as it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to free one.

We appreciate all donations, and thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Please help me bring my brother home!

P.S. I am in the process of contacting different non-profit organizations like The Innocence Project and The Baltimore Innocence Project. I will keep everyone updated if any of them are able to help us!
