Asha's Refuge provides services to vulnerable refugees & assylees new to the Memphis area to wecome & encourage them. We offer a variety of classes to our clients and are raising funds to support these programs.
Since Ash'as Refuge's existence, Memphis has received more than 500 refugees hoping to successfully resettle. To date, Asha's Refuge serves between 300 and 400 individual refugees and/or asylees, many of whom have experienced incredible hardships to get here.
Asha lost the use of ther legs fleeing civil war in Somalia. When she came to America she had no wheelchair, no easy way to get in and out of the shower, and no way to reach the stove top in her kitchen to cook meals for her family. Through personalized care, we were able to help Asha adjust to a new culture with these unique hardships.
Our goal is to love our refugee/asylee neighbors by catering to their specific needs and teaching them conversational English and some of the more personal skills necessary for US life. We want to see our clients thrive by achieving their professional goals and becoming self sufficient. We offer transportation help, translation assistance, basic job training skills, a path to high school diploma, basic computer skills, American life and language skills, and immigration and family services.
Funds raised will greatly help us to continue to provide the variety programs and services that we do. Your encouargement and support is what keeps us pressing forward. Thank you!
