When public school failed our child because of his intellectual ability, we were forced to put him in private school. We have depleted our funds to support him, and he's only in 5th grade. Please see below for more info.
Almost 4 years ago, we were told by public school administrators that there was nothing more that they could do or would do for Judah, who was excelling intellectually far beyond his grade level. Keeping him in the public school system was not only becoming detrimental to his educational growth, but it was also causing him mental and physical distress. He was not being challenged, not being acknowledged, and peers were beginning to notice that he was different. We began to see a developing depression in a boy who typically loves life, and this combined with our conversations with administration - who actively acknowledged that they couldn't meet his needs - led us to the decision to put him in a private school.
The private school he attends now is one that welcomes students of his caliber and challenges them to their full potential. It is a campus full of students that are similar to Judah in many ways, students who are learning about coding, rocket science, and XXX...in elementary school. Yes, elementary school.
The switch to this school was not a decision that was made quickly, nor was it a commitment that we took lightly. We knew the financial burden that we would inevitably encounter, but how can we put a cost something like proper education for our gifted child?
