More Info

AMMA is a new interdisciplinary company, directed by movement artist Amanda Krische, dedicated to unearthing the physical archives of the body in an effort to locate collective harmony. Inspired by the ways that traditional cultures have used movement for medicine and healing (and our currently omnipresent directive to ignore the language of flesh), we are making work that dives deep into the psyche of intimacy, humor, contradiction, fantasy, and love.

Pulling from the most communicative parts of movement, music, film, science, and writing, AMMA is taking a well-rounded approach to shifting the performance paradigm, creating ceremonies to wonder about the ways we can directly impact and diversify the emotional interior of our community. Furthermore, we are interested in using the moving body as a way to plug into our collective consciousness, opening safe spaces to engage in complicated conversation and experience.

The last year has brought incredible opportunities, including support from The Jerome Foundation for project research at the University of Cambridge in England, commissions by The National YoungArts Foundation and Bombshell Dance Project, and residency time both at Omi International Arts Center and Keshet Arts Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

As previous support has come on a project-by-project basis, it has become clear that the work has the potential to impact our community at large. It is now time to sustainably ensure our near future; that we can continue building work and workshops that create these necessary spaces. And so we come to you, to join us at the ground level of this exciting new beginning!

We are building toward an exciting evening-length premiere! Amanda is also in the midst of a long term interdisciplinary collaboration to create a workshop with neuroscientists and psychologists in the U.S. and abroad, addressing the physiological experience of memory manipulation to use toward healing acute traumatic experiences.

All donations will go toward dancer pay (hourly rehearsal rates and performance stipends), weekly studio space, travel, room and board for performances and residencies out of NYC, and costumes/performance fees. We need this support to continue finding the ways we can be most effective, as a movement company, within our community.

Understanding that not everyone is in the position to donate, please be in touch if you would like to be notified of upcoming performances and ways to engage. Our biggest concern is to start building circles of support - to find the ways that we can be supported and challenged, but also to provide spaces for those that need support. We look tremendously forward to building with you all!
