I'm raising money for a cause I care about, but I need your help to reach my goal! Please become a supporter to follow my progress and share with your friends.
In 2009, a group of friends moved into the Chestnut Hill neighborhood in South Nashville as an intentional Christian community with a mission to practice environmental, economic, and racial reconciliation. We call ourselves Castanea.
Together, we are making a long-term commitment to this place, building our own homes here and trying to build affordable housing for some of our long-term neighbors. We are trying to make these homes as sustainable and energy efficient as we can, using solar hot water heaters, a green roof, growing walls, grey-water toilets, and more. We’re reusing many of the materials, and we’re trying to find used fixtures whenever possible. We’ve planted several fruit trees and bushes on our way to making a food forest on our lot.
Due to theft and some unexpected overages, we are going to be short about $30,000.
We’re at a really crucial stage of the project: getting drywall up to cover our vulnerable copper. We’ve put everything we have into this work, and now we need a little help to bring it to a completion. We want to be a long-term presence in this neighborhood, and add to the stability of a neighborhood that is going through some intense changes. Please, consider funding our project. Support us in our decision to commit to this place and to our neighbors.
