Hey All!

Today is the last day of the campaign and we couldn't be more grateful to everyone who has supported.

What started as a wild idea has evolved into something so much bigger. Although we not fully at our goal, I am confident we will be able to make this happen. That is all thanks to you.

There are few feelings more comforting than knowing there is somewhere safe to land when you take a leap of faith. I feel blessed to be apart of such a wonderful community.

Tomorrow the real work begins and we look forward to keeping you all updated on the progress.

More Info

During my recent travels to East Africa, I met a wonderful and inspiring man named Jean Bosco.

Jean Bosco is in his early 50's, though you'd probably mistake him for 30. He has worked 24-hour days, 4 days a week, for over 26 years. He has been able to support a beautiful family including his two daughters, both of whom are currently at Universities in Canada. Jeanne, Jean Bosco's eldest daughter, is graduating next year. It has been over 6 years since they've seen each other.

We spoke a lot during my short stay in the DR Congo and upon hearing about his daughter's graduation, I asked him if he was going to attend. He answered with just a chuckle and a smile as though the answer was obvious. He wasn’t, and I felt guilty for even asking.

I decided that I wanted to do something, anything, to show my appreciation for Jean Bosco. The character, optimism, and selflessness he brings to the world just by being himself felt like an ancient wisdom I had been lucky enough to stumble across. I wanted to give him more than heartfelt words but in reality, I don’t have much more to offer. I came up with a plan.

Jean Bosco had mentioned before how he had great conversations in the past that had lead to false promises of a follow-up, so I wanted to be extra careful about what I was to present. I told him that although I am not-so-good at art,  I wanted to make a portrait of him and send it to his daughter as a graduation present.  He liked the idea, or at least pretended to, and agreed to let me take a photo of him for reference and also to provide me more information about his daughter so that I could contact her directly.

I knew it probably sounded lame but it would help me in my efforts to accomplish my true goal, and allow me to do so without lying. I had no real intention of just sending his daughter a random piece of mediocre art, I was going to try to surprise him with the opportunity to attend his daughter's graduation. Though, as promised, I did make the portrait.

Upon my return to LA, I got in touch with Jeanne and presented the idea. She liked it, and we put the wheels in motion.

The project wouldn’t be easy, especially because we want to make it a surprise. At the moment, Jean Bosco doesn’t hold a passport. Thus, we are asking for the support of you, and all the wonderful people around us, to make this wonderful reunion happen.

All net proceeds will go toward obtaining a Passport, Visa, Flights, accommodation, and other travel expenses!

Any contributions that help us exceed our goal will go toward further activities to make more of these amazing moments happen!
