On May 1st, long time Blues & rugby supporter, Jay Flaherty, passed away. In lieu of flowers we would ask that donations be made here. All proceeds will go to Cindy Flaherty to assist the family in their time of need.
We are saddened to pass along the news that esteemed alumni and one of the club’s most ardent supporters, Jay Flaherty, passed away this morning at approximately 2 AM on May 1st. There will be no services planned until later after things get back to normal with social distancing, etc. We will pass along any information about any celebration of life ceremony or gathering as soon as we hear more. Our prayers are with Jay’s wife, Cindy and their entire family. Jay is undoubtedly playing on a bright, green field now, under a blue sky, against an opponent slightly less skilled than he.
Jay played (in order) for: KCRFC, Independence Rugby, River Quay, Boise (Snake River) Rugby, Deadgoat Rugby (Utah), and Motherlode Rugby before returning to KC in the mid to late 80's where he played for the Blues into his 40's. Since then, Jay was one of the most supportive fans the Blues have had, attending almost every home game and after match. Three cheers for Jay!
