The professional photographs are in and Jalen looks collegiate ready.
The world seems a whole lot smaller and aggressive goals appear approachable when you’re surrounded by those who show you unconditional support. On June 8, 2019, I officially became a graduate of Mirabeau Lamar High School in Houston, Texas. Although it seems as if I walked the stage alone, I didn’t. During my seven second walk across the stage, all of those who supported me in every way, shape and form, walked along side me. Every lesson learned, every temporary obstacle I’ve encounter has developed me into the young man that I’ve become. High school was more than attaining a diploma; it was during these pivotal years where I became more respectful, patient, and willing to learn than ever before. To achieve this milestone is a testament of my hard work, and expectations that have been set by myself and others. Your support has helped to make this moment possible.
It is with great excitement and anticipation to announce my pursuit of higher education. This fall I will become a Pirate wearing the colors of blue and white representing the ℅ 2023 at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia! I am looking forward to the opportunity to expand my knowledge, gain the HBCU experience, culture and academic excellence, and the possibility of playing lacrosse on a collegiate level. With the proper support system of faith, family, friends, great teachers and coaches, college was never my dream, it was inevitable.
“It takes a village to raise a child”. Growing up I heard this African proverb often. I grew up in a home where it was just me and my mom. I, however, was raised by a tight-knit community of immediate family, close family friends and church members. The lessons learned, encouragement and guidance has motivated me to excel beyond the standard, make good decisions, become a man of character and integrity, and treat others right. Having great role models, mentors, and coaches motivated me to have an impact on others by working with youth and giving back to the community that has molded me. I’m more determined to continue reaching my goals.
My career aspiration is to become a big name in sports management and or marketing. As a child, I’ve always wanted a role in sports. I believed that I would become a very successful athlete. As I grew older, I started to realize that the chances of me making it in professional sports, - despite my athleticism and ability to quickly learn a sport, was relatively zero to none. For a big portion of my high school career I was unsure of my future. I later decided that a career in Sports Management would suit me best. With my love of sports, my profession will become my vocation – something far more than a job, but a career that perfectly blends together my hobby, interest and passion.
Your support has been a cornerstone to help me reach my goals and I am eager to start this next chapter and share the journey with you.
