"Freedom lies in being bold" ~ Robert Frost
A BOLD donor is matching donations up to $113,750 so Freedom can be a reality.
Our journey at PEAK has been nothing if NOT bold. In 2012 the Pruitts had this crazy idea, that they could rescue a handful of farmed animals and live a much simpler life. You can imagine the comments and looks they received when people learned Mark was quitting a managerial position at a large hospital and they'd sell most of their belongings to move to Salem, Indiana to advocate for farmed animals.
In October 2013 they purchased a 20-acre property and took the first two bold little piglets, Annie and Andy – who escaped a fenced backyard in Minnesota and ran for their lives.
And so, Uplands PEAK became Indiana’s first farmed animal Sanctuary.
Mark nor Michelle had farming experience as the couple grew up in the city. They gained experience, intentionally growing slowly and taking on additional species.
Today, PEAK is the lifelong home to 8 pigs, 3 cows, 8 roosters, and 5 goats.
In less than 5 years, we have expanded our programs to offer many educational experiences including visiting days, field trips, and chartered bus tours.
Even with all that, we long to be even bolder in making a difference for farmed animals.
While our current property has been a great stepping stone to build PEAK, it only has 9 working acres of pasture for animals, so we are at max capacity for offering sanctuary to farmed animals in need.
The new farm in Freedom offers over 60 acres of quality pasture, allowing us to BOLDY offer lifelong sanctuary to even more animals in need. Plus, the long-term growth potential is tremendous and will allow us to expand all of our programs—enabling us to save thousands of more lives.
The barn, which requires some work, is 3 times the size of our current barn, it will increase our hay storage and provide much needed senior animal housing.
The large main house will allow us to offer year-round housing for 4-6 interns. Down the road, we can house staff, other long-term volunteers, and guest speakers.
An old kennel on-site, with some TLC, can be converted into an animal treatment center in the future as well.
The Freedom Farm is about 35 minutes from Bloomington, which we know will positively impact our volunteer and visiting programs.
One of PEAK’s valued principles is to be debt free, which is FREEDOM!
We ONLY need to raise $230,000 to own the property outright. Plus transport our residents and portable buildings, and complete a few immediate projects to keep the animals safe.
Will you be BOLD? Will you help us reach FREEDOM and give today?
