Jacob Charles and his friends were on their annual post-holiday trip when they were in a devastating car accident. Please donate to help him with his medical bills and life expenses.
Final Indeed We Can numbers came in: between the net profits and $3500 in just raffle tickets, we raised $18,706 for Benja and Jake. Split between the two they each got $9,353!
I'm POOPED but delighted. Thank you all, thank you a million times.
Holy cow folks.
We broke an Indeed We Can record last night. I don't have final tallies because we got some donated cash from last night, cookie cash (btw those were 10/10 A+), and Milwaukee totals, but I can tell you that last night was a huge success!
One other IWC thing, the taproom is taking $10,000 from the general fund and donating it to Benja and Jacob Charles. That's amazing.
In other great news we are officially at our halfway mark of our campaign goal.
Thank you to everyone who came last night, thank you to everyone who has donated, thank you for your love and support, you're all wonderful and beautiful people.
Ah nuts, nobody told me to take pictures last night.
Tomorrow is the day for the Indeed We Can fundraiser for Jacob Charles and Benja. We have a super cool raffle that me and 3 others from the taproom are organizing (a huge thank you to Natalie, Kiersten, and Addie!), things in the raffle are brewery t-shirts, some artwork by Chuck U, gift cards, and my personal favorite: beer bombers featuring art from our boy Jake! Raffle tickets will be $5 each or 5 for $20. Benja's mom has a friend that will also be making cookies for the event, we're going to sell those for $5, they look beautiful and I'm told they're delicious, please report back with your review.
If you can't make it and you live in the Minneapolis metro, to-go beer orders for that day will benefit Jake and Ben. Here's a link, we can hold it for you, just let us know in the instructions: https://www.toasttab.com/indeed-mpls-to-go/v3/?mode=fulfillment
The brewery in Milwaukee is also participating in this, if you're in the Milwaukee area, stop by for a beer, or you can also order beer to-go as well. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS THE MILWAUKEE LINK: https://www.toasttab.com/indeed-milw-to-go/v3/?mode=fulfillment WISCONSIN ONLY!
Here's the link to the facebook event for Indeed We Can: https://www.facebook.com/events/332130168790099/?acontext=%7B%22event_action_history%22%3A[%7B%22surface%22%3A%22page%22%7D]%7D
If you decide to turn up to our Indeed We Can, don't forget to plan a sober ride, we've got some big abv on tap. And if you see Jake, gentle hugs please.
I'll try to snap a few photos, if you see me, please remind me to take pictures.
We made the news everyone! I know I've said it a few times here and once in the video but I am so grateful for the love and support that you have generously given.
Small teeny tiny update: Had a chat with Jacob Charles tonight. He's feeling the best he has in a while, that definitely puts a smile on my face.
Also I think the original link for the Indeed We Can fundraiser for Benja and Charles was broken. Let's try this one:
Clear your schedules for 1/26 from 3-11pm, all net proceeds go to them, merch included!
Hey everyone, I've got some small updates and some big gratitude to pass along from Jacob Charles.
"Every day is a blessing and I see little victories and improvements." lil text message I got from him last week, I can hear his voice when I read it, can you?
As far as medical stuff he's weaning off the pain meds and can use the stairs. Stairs are huge! There has been great progress in the BM department which I know is gross, but any medical professional would be thrilled. We Stan a good poop!
Your generosity has been jaw-dropping folks, it is so exciting to see the messages and donations flowing in. I've also received some excellent advice about medical billing.
There's two people that deserve a super shout out and that would be Jake's cousin Anna and her fiancee Matt, they took him in when Jake's parents caught COVID and helped navigate the aftermath of the hospital stay. "Anna is a super human and I can't express how thankful I am to have them in my life."
In other good news, Jake should be getting the first chunk of donations given to him today. Thank you again to all who have given.
I'll post this as a separate post (and with multiple reminders) but clear your schedule for 1/26 in the evening. There will be a fundraiser for both Benja and Jake at Indeed. Things to know: we will require vaccination cards or proof of a negative covid test to enter the taproom so please plan appropriately.
(To Benja's folks/family I volunteered to help plan it, please contact me at 612-716-1093 at your earliest convenience with questions/concerns/desires about it).
Holy cow! I am amazed by the generosity from the community. It's almost as if ya'll were READY for this page.
I have gotten a few texts from folks asking if there is something they can do to help because funds are a little tight at the moment and a cash donation is a little tough at the moment. The good news is that there is. Feel free to share this link with some people that you know on social media or in an email to some people who have a little extra. Small donations of $5 or $10 go a long way when they're plentiful, it's like the difference between fighting off one toddler, versus 30. Think of it as buying Jake a beer.
Other ways you can help is advice! These are uncharted waters for Jacob Charles and his family, so if you know something about navigating major injuries or medical billing or even asking for help from the county, city, or state...we have an open ear.
And of course you're always welcome to post a funny photo or a good story. It's hard to have gatherings at the moment but we're all just a quick internet message away.
TL:DR: Thank you, love you, if you don't have cash...pipe up!
Jacob Charles has some pretty extensive injuries from the car crash. He has severe bruising that has been healing, and some internal bleeding in his liver and an arterial bleed. Most concerning was he had a stroke that has affected his vision, he has a blindspot that prevents him from driving and will be a major determining factor on when he can return to work. He's got some follow-ups with the hospital to establish the next steps for his recovery.
However, in usual Jacob Charles form, he's been in good spirits and is staying positive. Feel free to reach out with any questions or funny photos.
