ITASA, the Intercollegiate Taiwanese American Students Association, is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and empowering the next generation of Taiwanese American leaders, and works with over one hundred student organizations to plan and host events from coast to coast. Each year, ITASA holds regional conferences that attract students from all across the country to gather and participate in networking, leadership training, and identity building.
Born out of a desire to better understand how Taiwanese Americans approach their identities and communities after graduating college, the theme for the 2021 Midwest Conference is “Branch & Bound.” Derived from the titular computer science algorithm, “Branch & Bound” signals the continuous pivot through all possibilities (“branches”) and consequent limits (“bounds”) before arriving at the best outcome. In the same way, attendees will glean invaluable insight into their “branches” by considering unconventional career paths and recognize the “bounds” of their time, energy, and interests. Following the stories and experiences of new graduates, community action advocates, and industry professionals, students will learn to “branch” out beyond their comfort zones and visualize their passions in the context of a rapidly diversifying workplace while staying “bound” to their identity and community with the support of their peers and mentors.
Past ITASA Midwest Conferences have attracted students from the University of Michigan, Purdue University, the Ohio State University, Northwestern University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Case Western Reserve University, the University of Texas at Austin, and more. By investing in our conference, you will gain access to our extensive Taiwanese American network and directly equip hundreds of students with the resources and knowledge necessary to lead, strengthen, and give back to their individual communities. Through “Branch & Bound,” our hope is that attendees will be imbued with a greater sense of purpose, identity, and community that inspires them to create lasting change and endures in the years to come.
