Hello, my name is Keegan McMurry,
I am currently a Sophomore in college, and have been given the opportunity to travel to Israel and Palestine on a 10 day excursion. There are two main reasons I am excited about this trip, one being for the religious and spiritual aspects, and the other for the historical and cultural aspects.
I have grown up in the church, and it has always been a dream of mine to go to the places where Jesus walked. This would be a great faith opportunity as I get to go learn about Christianity from where it started, with a group of other devoted Christians. However, instead of the usual approach of just going to Israel, we are working through a Palestinian tour company that will take us through places in both Palestine and Israel, supporting both economies, and getting to look at both cultures in a religious light, and following the path of Jesus through the area.
As for the historical and cultural aspects, I want to become a History/Social Studies teacher for middle school or high school. I know that one of the best ways to learn about new cultures, and their history is to experience them first hand. This would be a golden opportunity to do so, traveling to some place I have never been, and experiencing the thousands of years of human history and culture that is in that region.
