IMAGINE..Hitting a 1lb adaptive softball by only hearing only a beep and timing in your head, then running after that ball is hit to a base located 100ft away at a speed of around 5 seconds. Then while the runner is trying to find the base the field is focusing in on that ball by only its buzzing and will try and lift the ball off the ground prior to the runner hitting the base that has been activated. BUT WAIT.. There is more... This is all done while all players are blindfolded to give an equal playing field with varying levels of acuity. AND… even more fun to watch is a very rare homerun where that fly ball hits the bat and travels over 160ft. in the air before landing in the outfield for a 2 point play. What is this amazing sport?? IT'S BEEP BASEBALL and if you have never seen it played its something to behold!
We began the Indy Edge team about 7 years ago to allow the sport to grow in our local area while giving blind and visually impaired individuals something to belong too. Today, we sit as the 2022 World Champions with several huge record-breaking accomplishments under our belt from last season including having an unbeaten season straight through all of 2022, 2 CHAMPIONSHIP HOMERUNS and a third at a local tourney.
It is incredible to see how sport can be the most enjoyable and looked forward too thing when opening season occurs, although our team practices indoors in the winter to stay focused on our goals. Our vision when starting the team was to allow as many blind and visually impaired athletes compete at a high level of competition as possible. Indiana overall has a very high percentage of blind and visually impaired individuals so the more places to play and participate the better. It's important to mention that winning our sports' CHAMPIONSHIP, is the equivalent to winning a gold at the Paralympics or winning an MLB title. It the crown-jewel of our sport.
Know all donations we receive are given back 100 percent to the team and its athletes to assist in funding the necessary components of a season which is approximately $30,000 with a team the size of ours.
If you would like to know more about the adaptive sport of BEEP BASEBALL, (we are a team under a National 501 organization as well) please refer to www.NBBA.org.
We thank you in advance for your donation and spreading the word about this absolutely amazing sport and hope you will follow us for the upcoming season's accomplishments in 2023 on our Facebook Page, INDY EDGE BEEP BASEBALL.
