In February of 2005 I was in a crazy car accident where my spinal cord was injured and my neck was broken; I remain paralyzed.
In the last 9 years, my life has changed drastically in many ways. I was injured, recovered the best that I could, got married and now am separated. I find myself in a place that I need help. I’ve lost the independence that I once had and although I’m gaining some back, my major hold up is my vehicle.
I have a 1994 Chevy VanDura. The wheelchair lift is very old and getting in and out is very scary. There have been times where my life literally was in danger because it was functioning incorrectly. Once I am in the van, I am unable to see out and this makes my life very small. I cannot drive this vehicle independently, so I always have to rely on someone to take me where I need to go.
I have a really difficult time asking for help, but am desperate for any help or suggestions you could give me. I’m unable to obtain a loan based on my inability to work. I have tried several other avenues to find help in obtaining a vehicle with no sucess. I cannot continue living being confined to my small condo.
The price for a vehicle with the modifications that allow me to drive independently will roughly cost $50,000. The price seems daunting to me. The modifications will cost more than the vehicle itself. If you can find it in your heart to help me in any way or point me in a direction to find help I would be greatly appreciative. I just can’t live this way anymore. I’m very limited by my lack of transportation.
