The IA East Art Department teaches students not only how to use a wide range of media, but we also focus on the why behind art. Each grade spends considerable time exploring Art History, Art Criticism and Aesthetics as we seek to create meaningful works of art. We are a diverse community of learners. I have the privilege of teaching all four grades of visual arts in my building...and it is honestly, my dream job! I get to engage kids in learning about art and culture, creative expression, how and why humans make the things we do, and how to express themselves visually. My students are thoughtful, innovative, passionate creatives who strive to change the world on a daily basis. They love to challenge themselves to do more or be better through their actions and their artwork. Their determination and curiosity reminds me to never stop learning and growing myself. It's exciting to see the students grow over four years in visual arts.
We are raising funds for the IA East Art Department to acquire extra supplies. Our goal is for each student to have their own set of daily supplies so that they can work safely during covid, whether we are in school or at home. The purchased supplies will be lent out to students at the start of the year, collected at the end and then reused next year. This will prevent any sharing of germs between classes. We will also use the funds to purchase any other supplies for students who cannot afford to purchase their own sketchbooks, drawing pencils, etc. Our hope is to continue creating equitably without loss of accessibility.
