More Info

Literacy is one of the best predictors of a child’s future success.

·       One child in four Houston students do not meet minimum standards at Grade 3.

·       2/3 of students who cannot read proficiently by the end of Grade 4 will end up in jail or on welfare.

·       72,000 Houston Independent School District students are reading below grade level.

First Book provides new books to children in need, addressing one of the most important factors affecting illiteracy – access to books. An innovative leader in social enterprise, First Book has distributed more than 150 million free and low cost new books in thousands of communities across the United States of America and Canada!

Together we can end illiteracy and give all children a chance to become successful readers for life. It all starts with their First Book.
