Update #3

Robert was awarded a 50% tuition scholarship!!! YAY!
A few other great updates (so worth the read!):

1) Robert did additional research on which programs result in the most marketable majors, and chose to switch from pursuing the IT program to an Accounting program. Tuition for this program is also cheaper, at $1,350 a semester (versus $1,450 for IT). With his scholarship, tuition is just $675 a term (and there are 6 terms)!
2) Robert started school last week and has had his first few days of classes. He is so excited to be starting this journey and has expressed tremendous gratitude towards everyone who has given! Thank you!!
3) Since the village where he was staying is much too far away, Robert has found a deal on a shared rented room, for ~$30 / month. Additionally, while Robert has not expressed this need, it has become evident to me that he hasn't been able to eat much given I hadn't realistically budgeted for this. It will likely cost ~$30/ month for him to eat modestly.
4) Robert's first term has been paid in full with a combo of donor support and the 50% scholarship he was awarded, and his one time and first-year annual fees and August and September rent have been paid, as well. After all the in person donations and fundly fees, Robert remains with a $482.00 balance, or the majority of next semester's tuition.
5) The scholarship has decreased the total needed, but I have also increased the amount of needed living expenses to be realistic- while still modest. The tots are now updated on the site.

Thank you all for your encouragement, support, shares, prayers, and likes, and love, and for giving Robert the courage to take the plunge and start this journey towards hopefully achieving his dream, which he can't do without you! You rock!! <3

More Info

When I went to Uganda the first time back in 2012, I made a friend named Robert. He and another friend took my teammate Natasha (in the photos) and I out to the villages in Masaka. Here we had a wonderful time. We were also confronted during that journey with extreme poverty, and we understood how much our friend had achieved, given he was in a diploma program in the capital city of Kampala, far from his home.

As the first in his family to attend any advanced schooling, he received an IT certificate in 2012 as he continued to search for funding to do a Bachelor's. However, without a Bachelor's, it is incredibly difficult to find work in the Ugandan economy. Since this time, Robert has been unable to find work with his current qualification, or any financial aid to pursue a degree.

Robert has felt despair in his current situation and his inability to change it. Personally, I am blessed to live in a country where education is free through high school, and if you work hard enough, there are avenues towards higher education, and in turn, economic opportunities. Robert was able to find sponsors for his prior schooling, but no one has been able to partner with him towards a Bachelor's, which could make all the difference in his future and for his loved ones.

We have hope that together, we can be an avenue to provide Robert with hope and a future. Would you partner with us in this?

"'Why waste your time?... There are so many you can't save them all so what does is matter?' argued the man. Without hesitation, the child picked up another starfish and tossed the starfish back into the water... 'It matters to this one,' the child explained."

Thank you!!! We can't make a difference in Robert's life alone!

Robert's fundraising needs are as follows (see attached photos as well):

Victoria University Bachelor of Accounting in Oil and Gas, which the school advised is the most marketable degree currently, and the program will take 6 terms (3 years):

-Tuition: $4,050 total (675 / semester - since Robert received a 50% scholarship!!)

-Sum of one time and annual fees: $1,484

-Fundly platform fee estimation: $846.00

-Three Years Rent and Food: $2,160 ($720/year; About $30 /month for rent in a shared room in Kampala and about $30 a month for food. Robert previously slept in a brother's workshop in the far away villages)

TOTAL: $8,540

Update #2

With help from friends like you, we have raised enough for Robert's first semester out of six. He is hoping to start this September! Will you help us fund the $1,450.00 in one time fees (including the application fee) so that he can start this new life journey while we continue fundraising? If 100 people reading this gave $15, his fees would be covered! Thank you for your consideration! https://fundly.com/hope-for-robert-s-future

Update #1

Hi!

From the bottom of my heart, I want to say THANK YOU for your support of Robert's dream to get an education and obtain a Bachelor's degree. I can't understate what a big difference this has already made in Robert's life. HE messages me every week, and he has told me how seeing people he doesn't even know generously support him has filled his heart, which was pretty broken at the start of this campaign, with a lot of hope again!

We've raised enough for Robert's first term out of six, which is incredible! He is hoping to start school this September, and the deadline to apply is approaching. If everyone who has already given makes another contribution in the same size, his entire first year will be funded, which is a true miracle! That way, he can start school as we continue to fundraise. Will you consider making another donation and helping him get there?

Thank you again. You may not even understand what an impact what you have already done can have in Robert's life if you have never been to Uganda, and words can't express his and my thankfulness!

Blessings,
Skie
