Hope for Puerto Rico is an initiative to help assist victims of Hurricane Maria in their personal recovery and their communities.
On September 20, 2017, Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria. This phenomenon reached Category 4 and is considered one of the most powerful in the history of the island, with wind gusts of 200mph, compared to Hurricane San Felipe of 1928.
“Hope For Puerto Rico" arises from an initial project that was created to help refugees from the nearby islands of Puerto Rico, devastated by Hurricane Irma. In four days, over a 1,000 packages of personal hygienes products were collected and distributed(at that moment known as “Hope Kits”). Different churches, organizations, businesses, and people in general responded to this request.
Two weeks later, Puerto Rico experienced the devastation caused by the catastrophic Hurricane María. The whole island has no power, potable water, and the communication systems were destroyed.
This initiative has been organized by the Centro Metropolitano de Servicios Comunitarios Inc. CMSC is a community-based entity created by the Metropolitan Christian Church - Disciples of Christ (ICDC Metro) to meet the needs and interest of the community. It is tax exempt under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
All collected donations will be used in the short and long term recovery efforts to help victims of the hurricane in Puerto Rico.
