HOOT! wants you, HOOT! needs you, HOOT! loves you!

Since 2011, we've drawn secret musical legends from living rooms, backyards, and garages, put them in the service of reinterpreting (and extending) the entire history of song, and launched a new folk tradition. We've grown, especially in the past year, and with several occasions each month for local musicians to stretch and shine, it's time to document our efforts with greater thoroughness, fidelity, and imagination. The HOOT! ON RECORD campaign aims to take our community-in-concert series to a new level of visibility - and audibility.

In concert form, we've presented original song-cycles (There's No Love in Rock and Roll: Songs From American Romance Comics), re-imaginings of classic albums (Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks & Self-Portrait; The Kinks' Muswell Hillbillies; Neil Young's Comes a Time);  curated programs of favorite and overlooked repertoire (The Obama Playlist; Burt Bacharach; girl-group songs; James Bond Themes); and contributed one of our most urgent programs to The Concert Across America to End Gun Violence, Disarmed.

While we have "souvenir" recordings of these shows, they deserve better representation and exposure.

With your help, here's how we're going to achieve that:

Studio HOOT!  - a modest audio & video production center where the HOOT! family can lay down tracks for posterity, or capture live in-studio sets to share with the world.

Public Records - our very own label, dedicated to releasing albums of original material and special projects.

The HOOT!eg Series - live recordings from our concerts in superior sound.

In reverse order, our budget is such:

$500 The HOOT!eg Series (costs for the first phase of live archival releases - limited-edition collections from our "souvenir sound" era).

$5000 PUBLIC RECORDS (startup costs for our own label: formation, promotion, digital distribution & rights package, and initial production).

$7000: STUDIO HOOT! (Basic studio & live recording package: iPad Pro; Ableton Live 10 Suite; Blackmagic Digital Cinema Camera; various additional equipment and protection, space rental).

If we exceed our goal, the extra funds will help cover our increased operating costs, and fortify our instructor account for the next semester of our tutor program, HOOT! CAMP.

HOOT! celebrates its eighth anniversary in September, and this campaign is our way of acknowledging all we've created - and will continue to create - together.

Thanks for your contribution, musical or otherwise.

Joe Christiano, HOOT!
