I’ve always wanted to build a house. I can picture so clearly a cozy, bright, inviting space where friends & family can feel welcome anytime, and where my kids want to spend time and won’t worry that we might move again.

I haven’t told many people that I’ve wanted to build a house, because I’ve been embarrassed to admit it.I love looking at houses, and even go to open houses when I have the time, just for fun. When Jon moved out in 2018 I began thinking about what I might want for myself. I developed some very specific dreams, but wasn’t sure how to get there. I thought that if the perfect house came on the market, I would move out of the house Jon and I bought together and finally have a place of my own. But years passed and no house seemed right. When the price of houses began to steadily rise, I started to wonder if building was maybe a realistic option. Beginning in probably June of 2021 I began researching home building companies. Through reading, I discovered kit homes, concrete homes, dome houses, container homes, stick built vs. factory built, as well as terminology like SIPS, knee-wall, bord and batten, trusses, r-value, etc.
