Holiday Giving for Foster Kids

From Allison Spillman

We are raising money for local foster kids (a cause near and dear to us since adopting Bonnie and Lee in 2018). Your donation will go directly to People Places, a foster agency in Charlottesville, VA.

Update #2

I will never forget our first Christmas morning with Bonnie and Lee (see the picture). All 5 kids came rushing into the living room. Of course our 3 older boys knew what to expect and went right to what Santa had delivered the night before but Lee just stood there. We gently showed him where his stuff was located and said "woah Lee, look what Santa brought you!" There was a giant train table, his stocking and other small gifts. He looked at me and with the biggest smile on face picked up the $1 coloring book next to his stocking and said "a coloring book! I love it! This is the best Christmas ever" and then ran to his room to color. He didn't even notice the room full of presents. He was completely thrilled with the smallest gift. Chris and I looked at each other with tears in our eyes and couldn't help but wonder what his previous Christmases must have been like. What a humbling moment.
Our fundraiser ends in 2 days and we are SO CLOSE to our goal. Please consider making a donation that will go directly to helping foster kids this holiday season. Please help us deliver a little bit of magic to the Bonnie and Lees still out there fighting for a safe, loving and permanent home ❤️
Also, we are collecting the following items if you would rather give back another way. We will be delivering all money and donated items to People Places before Christmas so message me for my address to drop off donations to me before this Friday. (this list came directly from my contact at People Places)
Weighted lap pads
Weighted stuffed animals
Rainsticks
Star projector

More Info

As most of you know, we adopted our youngest 2 children (Bonnie and Lee) in 2018 from the foster system in Arizona.  Our sweet kids spent 2.5 years in the system being bounced around 7 different foster homes before landing in their forever home with us.  Every holiday season we try to give back to foster youth in some way, usually involving our community.  Unfortunately, Covid is limiting the ways in which we can organize this year.  Even more unfortunate is that foster agencies are forced to limit donations of toys this holiday season in order to reduce the risk of spreading covid.  BUT we can donate money in order for the agencies to make sure that foster kids have the happiest holidays possible.  We chose to donate to People Places, a local foster agency in Charlottesville, because our donations will go directly to foster youth in Virginia. There are currently over 400,000 foster children in the US. Please help us give these kids a little cheer and love this year.

Update #1

This is Lee. The first picture was taken 2 weeks after he came to live with us. The second was taken 4 short months later. It's amazing what love and safety can do for a child. This is our "why".

Please consider donating to our fundraiser to help other foster kids this holiday season. There are currently 400,000 kids in the foster system that could use a little holiday cheer.
