Hit & Run Wrecked My Car

Hit & Run Wrecked My Car

From Jack Bouley

I just bought my first new car and somebody wrecked it. Because it was a hit & run, I have to pay my 1k deductible to get it fixed even though it wasn't my fault :(

Update #4

Thank you to everyone who made this happen. I had no idea what to do, and people from my past and present, even total strangers, came together to help me out. This has been about more than money. It has taught me that my instinct that people are basically kind and generous was true, and it has taught me that helping someone with even a few dollars makes a huge difference. It has also made me more inclined than ever before to give whenever I can. So thank you all, and may your good vibes find their way out into the universe. <3

More Info

I had just moved from New Hampshire to San Diego with my partner to start a new life. I bought the best and cheapest car a could find, a 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage (3 cylinder engine!!), and it cost $1500 to register it and pay California taxes on it. My savings were basically gone, but I had just started my new job as a manager at Woodstock's Pizza on Pacific Beach so the plan was coming together. Then, just as I was getting into bed, there was a loud crash. Someone had run into my car while it was parked and they drove away. A witness saw the accident but didn't get a license plate number.

The guy's front bumper broke in half. The chunk is in my closet so that if I find the car, I can take a picture and prove it's the one that did the damage. I probably won't find him, and that's why I'm setting this donation page up. I have to pay my deductible, and unless I get a little help doing it, I'm not too sure how I'm going to make everything work. Hannah gave me the suggestion to set up a fundraising page, and I picked Fundly because even if I don't hit my goal, I can still use people's donations.

So if you can "buy me a beer" for $5, or "see a movie with me" for $10, every penny helps. All my friends are just as hard-working and broke as I am, so I know that they're not made of money. But if I get help with this, maybe I can come visit you soon and buy you a real beer or see a real movie with you (since this it's all going towards my deductible). Next time, it'll be on me :)

$275 in 5 hours? This is bonkers. At this rate I'll be able to pay my deductible on time next week. I'm grateful and a little overwhelmed....0
