Helping a Family in Need

Helping a Family in Need

From Kristin SchumacherSmith

I'm reaching out for help for a family that I know. This family had their life change unexpectedly and in my opinion, unfairly. They need our help and I'm here to ask you all for that. Read for more detail.

The family I’m fundraising for are not ones to typically ask for help. So I’m reaching out on behalf of them, because they deserve the help.

This is a family of 6: dad, mom, three sons and a daughter. A few weeks ago, the dad had gone down to Mexico for his visa renewal that they had been waiting 2 and a half years for. They had everything they needed and honestly thought he would get approved. Sadly, it did not work out that way. He was denied (something they did not expect) and was said to be a possible "public charge" (even though they have a sponsor and he's definitely not).

One of the sons had reached out to me about this all. The mom was pregnant when this all happened and gave birth a couple weeks back to a healthy baby boy. (Sadly, without her husband there). She is now, unintentionally, a single mom raising 4 kids.

To me, this is not fair. It’s not fair that this family has done everything right in the process of visas and raising such wonderful kids and they were denied. It’s not fair that the dad is not a public charge or threat, yet they are treating him as one.

They are now financially struggling and don’t know what is going to happen. The dad was working and providing for the family. The mom is currently not able to work with her new baby boy. The sons are very involved in school and work hard on their academics, but are most likely going to have to pick up a side job to help out.

This is where I’m asking you all to help out. I would really love to raise some money for this family so that we can help them during this time. The hope is the dad is able to return soon, but this process has not been easy for them and they are truly struggling.

Any help would be greatly appreciated by the family. If you would like to know more specifics (as this is a sensitive and private matter, hence no names are given here), please reach out. Also, if you prefer to Venmo or PayPay me instead of here (since they take a percentage) that would be great as well!

Thank you so much and I really hope we can do something to help this family!
