Help me to make a difference for all!

Help me to make a difference for all!

From Yanique Levy

Last year I took a leap of faith by starting my PhD using my family's life savings. However, I'm at risk of dropping out because I have no means to pay this semester's tuition!

Hi guys! Now that the campaign has ended, I want to say, again, a BIG THANK YOU to each and everyone of you! To all those who supported the campaign, donated money or whispered prayers and words of encouragement and positivity....THANK YOU!!! I could not have done it without you. With your help, working multiple jobs, staying positive and driven and never giving up I have made my target! I would like to also take this opportunity to pass on some encouragement to those who are going through rough times. Stay positive, keep your eyes on the prize, have faith, pray and NEVER GIVE UP!!

UPDATE UPDATE:

Happy Sunday everyone! The biggest Thank You again to everyone who has donated and/or supported this campaign! Your donations along with money earned from working multiple jobs has reduced the amount I owe to $5,000! I am making one final effort to try and raise this amount by August 22nd. Please share this campaign with your friends, family or anyone you think will be willing to donate. Thank you all for your constant prayers and well wishes. I could not have come this far without you! It has been a VERY ARDUOUS road but I am in it for the long haul.

For everyone who donates $50 or more, you will receive a Michael Manley scrap book that contains a collection of information and pictures of his life. "They called him Joshua". This book is rich with historical information about his journey and those around him. It is filled with Jamaican Heritage. It has been said that Michael Manley has been the most Charismatic Leader Jamaica has ever had.

Love you all.

Yanique

UPDATE:

After speaking with both the international student office and the psychology administration office at Nova, I will unfortunately have to miss the mandatory summer session of my program. However, I have been given the chance to register for the fall semester once I clear this amount owed! (sigh of relief!!)This is great news, because now I have more time to work on additional funding vehicles for the upcoming semester, and the rest of my program. More specifically, I now have until the end of the summer to raise the funding needed to continue school! I will continue to pursue all options available to me. Thank you ALL that have helped in this goal (either support and/or donations) and an even BIGGER thanks to those that now have the chance to help given the additional time I have!

I'm determined to not drop out of this program... I will achieve this dream!

Love,Yanique

---------------------------------------------------------------

My name is Yanique Levy.  I am currently enrolled in the Clinical Psychology program at Nova Southeastern university, one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a great Clinical/Sport Psychologist. This is extremely important to me because people close to me have been victims of mental illness. I was there to see first hand just how frightening this is and the potential it has to destroy someone and their family if not treated. I have seen how emotionally draining this can become, and have made it my mission to make a difference in this very important field.

I also have a passion for sports and athletes. I have been a track athlete all my life, and have represented my country in the long jump at several major international championships. Athletes also have a special place in my heart as I know the mental and physical struggles they have to endure in an attempt to be the best they can. The number of collegiate and professional athlete suicides have been steadily increasing and one factor that contributes heavily to this is that they lack the necessary psychological support and 'cave' under pressure. I have experienced these pressures and know exactly how dangerous they can be. I believe that given my natural talents and what I've learned, my calling is to be a psychologist and help those in need.

This journey has now come under threat. I am an international student, therefore I am unable to apply for student loans on my own. However, a dear friend of mine agreed to co-sign on a private loan for me but had to withdraw at the 11th hour for personal reasons. At this late stage I have few remaining options to pay my tuition!

As it stands now, I am at risk of losing my F-1 status if I am unable to remain enrolled school, which would be devastating not only to me but to my family who used all their savings in Jamaica to cover my travel expenses, and pay my tuition. I am still very positive that things will work out... I usually keep my challenges private and work through them on my own, but this time I have to swallow all my pride and put this out into the universe.

What I am aiming to achieve and more importantly what I want to give back is absolutely worth it!  I have worked extremely hard in my classes thus far and have a GPA of 3.8, and currently have all A's this semester!

I know from first-hand experience that this is a lot to ask of you, but even ten or twenty dollars will make a huge difference... and more importantly, your help in fundraising and personal support is worth more than a number to me.
