Help Penny Walk and Run Again

Help Penny Walk and Run Again

From Eli Madero

It's been a rough end to 2018 and start to 2019. Our Penny injured her CCL (similar to ACL in a human) and required a major surgery for repair. We don't normally ask for help, but we have no choice.

Update #1

Today is 2 weeks post-op and so far everything appears to have gone well. We had a few instances where Penny took it upon herself to jump out of her pen when Kristi had to leave the house but I'm pretty confident that she's still healing 100%. The last came off last week and she goes in tomorrow for removal of the stitches and hopefully an evaluation of her recovery. Thank you to everyone who has helped and considering. Every little bit counts for us right now.

More Info

At the end of 2018 we left Penny at a boarding facility since we were going out of town for a few days. We've never had an issue with her in the past and not 2 hours after dropping her off we received a call saying that she was favoring her right rear leg. There was nothing immediately wrong that the employees could see, so we figured it was a sprain or sore muscle. Upon our return we took her to our regular vet who felt the same and put her on a treatment of anti-inflamatories and pain killers for a week and there was still no improvement.

We were suggested to take her to a specialist where it was discovered that she had a tear in her CCL that would have to be repaired because this was causing her a significant amount of pain. As this had to be done sooner than later, we had the procedure done so we could get Penny on a road to recovery. Thank God for credit......

What this has left us with is a Vet bill in the thousands of dollars as we try to figure out a way to cover them. As I stated before, we don't normally ask for help like this but with Kristi being released from her job at the end of last year and still searching to find a new one, our funds are stretched fairly thin and we could really use the help of our friends. If you know us then you know that our pets are like our kids, even with Milo. Penny is just 5 years old and loves running with Kristi, being outdoors and is just an all around active dog, so it would have been unfair to leave her if left with an injury of this nature to "deal with" for the rest of her life.

We're turning to our family and friends for help.... Any help if you can spare it. Our goal is to cover the cost of the surgery and extensive rehab procedures we'll have to endure (this is a 2 month recovery). If we're able to hit our goal of this fundraiser we'll figure out some way to repay (thank you). A video or something that will show our gratitude for your help. If we somehow exceed our goal, any left over will be donated to the Frosted Faces Foundation www.frostedfacesfoundation.org where it can be used to care for senior dogs looking for a home.

Any amount can help. $2, $5, $20 or more.... We'll be sure to keep posting updates on her recovery and our sanity (more like Kristi's sanity) as it progresses. Thank you in advance!
