Any money we receive will be used to assist with the evacuation of our relative, support for their family (including their applications for humanitarian parole), and their resettlement costs.
Hi, we are Sana, Masood and Malalai. We are Afghan-American refugees. We were born as a refugees in Pakistan and came to the United States with our parents in 1988 with the help of Senator George J. Mitchell. Through the assistance of Catholic Charities, we were able to settle in Maine.
If it were not for tireless work of others, we may not be alive today, let alone thriving. Today we are asking for your help to save a relative of ours and to help bring their family to this country.
Like many, of you, we have been shocked and afraid in recent weeks. We have donated, offered resources, and kept in touch with relatives, as best as we could. Recently, we discovered that a relative (sorry, we cannot be more specific for fear of retaliation from the Taliban) has been placed on a "kill list" and risks torture and execution if we are not able to find means to gain approval for immediate evacuation.
What we have discovered in the past several days is that our ability to do this is contingent on reaching certain Afghan individuals who have already fled the country. If we are not able to do this, we are seeking humanitarian parole, the application for which is $575 per person. Any money we receive will be used to assist with the evacuation of our relative, support for their family (including their applications for humanitarian parole), and their resettlement costs.
We urgently need your help today, we are already coming up against barriers, and have had to dip into our own relatively small savings to rush documents, pay for access to databases, etc. We worry that a relatively insignificant economic barrier will prevent our family from saving someone close to us. Please consider donating.
