In December of 2019 Turner was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer. After intensive chemotherapy and surgery, he had immeadiate reoccurence of cancer. We want to help him fight this disease and not worry about finances!
In December of 2019 Turner was diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal cancer after going into the emergency room for side pain. While they initially only offered palliative options, Turner underwent an intense regimen of chemotherapy that assisted with reducing the cancer enough to qualify for surgery. He underwent an incredible resection surgery during the early spring and summer. Unfortunately, that intervention was not the cure we hoped for and the cancer almost immediately returned. The doctors have, again, put him into palliative care. While this is considered a comfort measure, Turner and his family have not given up. He has started a new regimen of immunotherapy and chemotherapy that requires him to be in treatment every other week. It is our fervent hope that this new treatment works and Turner will be with us for many years to come.
As we are rounding the first year since his Stage IV diagnosis, we all give thanks for his continued presence as a young person fighting cancer. While they have been very quiet on the matter, the family lost all of their income in April when Michelle was laid off from a company where she worked for over 6 years. A delay in the unemployment system has left her currently ineligible to draw unemployment benefits.
This year the family has worked tirelessly to keep Turner’s contracting business going, as it is the livelihood of multiple employees and their families. They have not drawn an income from that business. We were successful in 2020 in raising money that was instrumental in covering Turner’s out of pocket costs for chemotherapy and surgery and allowed for genetic testing to protect their baby daughter’s future. Right now I am asking for us to cover their expenses, but also go above that. Let’s make sure that the next months are filled with space for joy for Turner, his wife and baby daughter. No one in palliative care should have to be concerned about paying bills. Let’s help them focus on making memories together as a family. Let’s give this family some financial security and help provide a better 2021 for Turner, Michelle and baby Sid.
With love, Georgi
