Help the Wright family get out of a rental that's falling down around their ears and into a safer, healthier environment. Between the leaking roof, the mold, and the pervasive ant problem, we need a new home.

An update!
We have finally decided to involve a law firm with all the issues going on with this rental. It's been over a month since they got "roof bids"; meanwhile, we continue to wake up to a water-covered range and wet walls when it rains. My carpets are still moldy, but "our carpet guy should get in touch with you." Everything else on our list of issues - from the non-securing exterior door to the ceiling still hanging off where it should be in the family room - has been ignored.
I really wish it hadn't come to this (and it's an extra cost I didn't want to shoulder) but at this point, something has to be done.
As many of you know, Will and I have been dealing with problem after problem since we moved into this house, and our landlord has turned a deaf ear and a blind eye to all the problems. We offered to do the legwork and fix things ourselves as long as the cost was taken out of the rent; no dice.
Will and I are both Marines and OIF veterans; we are no strangers to questionable living standards and can deal with most things, but the issues with this house have gone beyond the pale and our landlord and his property management company keep giving us the runaround. The roof has leaked since we moved in, and now we have actively growing mold in my office. From exterior door security issues to old, mildewing carpets to a pervasive, every-room ants-in-the-walls problem since we moved in that we've thrown hundreds of dollars at, we quite simply have to get out of here for not only our family's security, but our family's health.
Unfortunately, moving requires an outlay of cash that we will not be able to put together in a timely manner, between application fees, security deposits, and any other extra security deposits .. and here in the Portland area, first and last month's rent can come out to an eye-popping sum.
Compounding the issue is the fact that Will was just diagnosed with diabetes, meaning that insurance has now become the primary concern for any job he holds. Right now, his insurance through his work covers a large portion of his medical bills, thus tying us to the Portland area rather than someplace less expensive.
Where are your donations going?
Any help you can provide is gratefully welcomed.

Holy cow, y'all! I cannot believe we've hit over 10% of our goal already! Words cannot truly express how grateful we are for your help and support. Thank you so, so much for donating and for sharing!
We're still hoping to go from this place to using our VA loan for a place of our own (rather than dealing with the bananas PDX rental market), so what we've raised so far will go toward the last things on the checklist we have from our credit rehab contact at Veterans United Home Loans, as well setting aside the cost of the U-Haul and starting the packing/storing/cleaning process to finally put this place behind us.
If you share the campaign again on social media, my friend (and awesome DM) Rachel is running an art raffle to support our fundraiser; her art is gorgeous & we're super stoked for her support. You can find the raffle link here: https://tinyurl.com/bddbt6r9
