HELP SCOTT REPAIR HIS HOME

My home is a "vintage" (read older) motorhome, which I live in full-time while traveling.  Approximately one month ago, I was side-swiped by a dump truck that did not stop.  Unfortunately, I was too busy trying not to hit other traffic, so I did not get a license plate.  The local police were not very optimistic about my chances of finding this truck.

As if that wasn't bad enough, the very next day while backing up, I struck a tree next to the site where I'm presently staying.  (in my defense it was early morning and the sun was very bright, and in my eyes) - causing extensive damage to the rear of my motorhome.  In its present condition, it is not driveable.,  Cost to repair the damage is estimated at $1,500, if I do most of the work myself.  The cost to have a shop repair all the damage is in excess of $4,000.

I have commiserated and thought about how to proceed, ultimately deciding to start this campaign.  You see the damage to my home is not covered by insurance.  While I do have liability coverage, I do NOT have comprehensive or collision.  This is because there is only one carrier who will insure a motorhome over 20 years old (remember I said it was vintage) and that one carrier quoted me a premium of $3,100 for six months - way out of my budget.

I am embarrassed by having to take this step, but I have little choice but to ask for your help.
