Update #5

Wow, I am in disbelief. With only 6 days left I reached my campaign goal! Excuse me, YOU reached the campaign goal. Seriously, with over 40 donors, each and every one of you helped to make this dream possible for me. And with 5 bucks to spare, I'll even be able to buy a snack on the plane! :)

I cannot thank you all enough! Whether you gave me monetary or emotional support, your willingness to stand by me and encourage me is priceless and is the most precious gift of all! I could not ask for anything more than to have friends and family like you!

So, again, thank you for your love and your generosity, knowing that although the campaign has ended, the journey has just begun! You will hear from me again via my blog that I will be updating from Morocco!

Until then...
Bon voyage!

Hello Friends and Family!

Next January I will be emarking on what I know will be an incredible four-month journey in Rabat, Morocco! Through the School for International Training (SIT), I will be studying migration and transnational identity issues! Yet, although the cost of the program is covered by my Whitman financial aid package, the cost of airfare is not. A one-way plane ticket costs approximately $1800 (and this is me not being picky), which, as you can imagine, is a high price for my family and me to afford. I have a spot on the program, but it will all be for nothing if I cannot actually get to Morocco!

So, this is where you come in! If you want to support the academic endeavors of a young woman who hopes to bring back what she learns to her community, then please consider pitching in with whatever you can afford! Even $10 will go a long way to helping me achieve this goal! Simply click on the donate button and give whatever it is that your current situation allows.

One way you will get to see your donation in action will be through a blog that I will maintain about my experiences in Morocco. I will also publish and share the research paper I will be writing at the end of the program, but to give you a sneak peek, I hope to write about the influence of immigration on local art and artisan's lives. If you have any further questions do not hesitate to contact me (moralesv@whitman.edu) or check out the website for the SIT program (http://www.sit.edu/studyabroad/ssa_mom.cfm)!

Words are not enough to express how grateful I am for all of your kindess and support! Thank you very very very much!

Best,

Sayda Morales

One Week Away!

Hi friends and family!

Can you believe time has flown by so fast?! I can't either! But you know what I also can't believe? I cannot comprehend just how close we are to reaching our goal! We are only $55 away from me being able to purchase my plane ticket to Rabat, Morocco!

So, if you have not donated already and still want to, now is your chance! And if you have, thank you so so so so so so much! Really, this campaign would not have been this successful if it weren't for you!

Just 7 more days to go, I know we can do this!

So much love and gratitude,
Sayda

Two Weeks Left!

As always, I want to firstly thank EVERYONE who has supported my campaign! You have no idea how much this means to me! As someone who works part-time with three jobs on campus as well as goes to school full-time, I really appreciate all of the generosity that you all have shown me!

That being said, I need to buy my airplane ticket no later than Tuesday, November 19th in order to send my program a copy of my flight itinerary on time. I am already 70% of the way there, so if you haven't donated already, please consider doing so!

I have been working hard and saving up in order to pay for my program tuition as well as all other personal expenses, which include travel insurance, necessary medicine, and the minimum amount of cash that my program recommends ($200). Yet, as I have mentioned before, all of my and my family's hard work and investments will be for nothing if I cannot actually get to Morocco! So, please, if your situation allows, consider helping me get to my study abroad program located in Morocco! Thank you!

Best,
Sayda

Let's Keep It Going!

Hello everyone!

"WOW!" That is all I can say. I feel incredibly blessed and impressed by the amount of kindness that you all have given me! It's almost been a week, and I am already close to 50% towards achieving my goal! However, we are still not there yet.

If you have not donated yet, please consider doing so! Or if you have, please consider sharing my campaign with your friends or family members! The sooner I reach my goal, the sooner I can purchase my plane ticket and rest easy knowing I will be able to make it to my study abroad program in Morocco!

Thank you all so much for your generosity! As always, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me (moralesv@whitman.edu)!

Much Love,
Sayda

Off to a Great Start!

Hello everyone!

I want to firstly say, THANK YOU to all of you who either donated or gave your support to this campaign thus far! This campaign has only been live for less than 24 hours and already the generosity is pouring in!

Secondly, let's keep this momentum going! I have set up my campaign to last for 59 more days, but of course, the longer I wait, the more expensive flights become, so please help me reach my goal ASAP!

Lastly, I would also like to clarify that prices of flights fluctuate, and so in the event that I end up spending less than $1800 on the plane ticket, any extra money will go towards paying off my school loans! I am the first in my immediate family to go to college, so making a dent into my school loans so that I can focus on applying to graduate programs, would be super helpful for both my family and me! So, yeah, any extra donations will go directly to that fund.

Again, if any of you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me! My email is moralesv@whitman.edu!

Many thanks,
Sayda
