Update #4

Dozer is home and getting better everyday. He is still unable to eat his dry dog food and refuses to eat the wet food. So, we cook him Hamburger and sweet potato with some green beans. It seems to be the only thing he is willing to eat and at this point, we need to put some weight back on him. He has lost 5 pounds since he started getting sick.
The Dr. told us that they had to remove 6 inches of his small colon and reattach his intestine. He is relearning his bathroom habits and it will be a few months, before he is completely recovered.
Some of you will probably say: "Why would you spend that kind of money on a dog?", or "Why didn't you just put him down". (I have been asked both of these questions.)
At the time of the surgery, we didn't know what made him sick, how bad it was or if he would even make it. We only found out afterwards, that we almost lost him. If we had to do it over again, we would make the same decision.
Unless you have ever owned a pet, you will never understand the bond you create with your pet. They become part of your family, will do anything for you and depend on you to do the same for them.

More Info

Dozer is 1.5 years old and has been with us since the day he was born. We had to bottle feed him, because his mama couldn't produce enough milk. He is usually a happy and playful dog. Besides the occasional ear infection, which is normal for the breed, he has been a healthy boy. Two days ago he started getting sick and was unable to keep anything down. We took him to the vet, where they ran tests and did x-rays on his stomach. After giving him something for pain, vomiting and rehydrating him, we were able to pick him up just to transfer him to the ER. When we got there, the Dr. check the x-rays and report we had been given by the Vet and decided that we should take him home and keep an eye on him. Tonight we had to take him back to the ER. They are doing more x-rays, bloodwork and scoping his stomach to make sure there is no blockage. He will have to stay there until they figure out the cause of his illness. Please help us. We don't want to loose him.

Update #3

We went to see Dozer and he is doing a little better. He ate some of the chicken we brought for him and of course the cheese. Surprisingly he did not want the peanut butter. He is still on IV fluids, but is also starting to drink water. Hopefully he will be out of the woods soon.

Update #2

Dozer had surgery this morning. His intestine was rolled up and in his small colon. They were unable to unroll it and had to cut it out and reattach it. He is not out of the woods yet. They are watching him closely for infection. We are heart broken and worried that we will loose him.

Update #1

Blood tests came back. His white cell count is elevated and they are very concerned, because they have not found the cause yet. He will be staying the night, maybe longer.
