Help Sam Get To Japan and School!

From Samantha Ellsworth

I need help with some of the expenses of my upcoming semester abroad. Two things: Buying decent luggage for air travel and buying a commuter pass to ride the train to school and back.

Hey everyone! As many of you know, I was recently accepted to study abroad at Sophia University in Tokyo this spring. In Japan, the Spring semester is the beginning of the school year for Japanese students and starts in April and ends in early August. My departure date will be March 30th and I'll be returning on September 1st. While I'll say that this has been a dream in the making since I was a pre-teen watching Naruto, I've actually been laying down the ground work to study abroad for the past three years, through Japanese courses and just really pushing myself to get as much information about how to study abroad as possible. Now to get down to business:

I need help purchasing a good set of luggage and a commuter pass to ride the train back and forth from my apartment to school!

Given my age and the fact I haven't done any major traveling by myself, I actually don't own any decent suitcases. One thing that I've noticed is that suitcases are とても高いですよ!(Very expensive!) Most sets are around $200. I would like to be able to bring my necessities over and not have to worry about them getting destroyed on the tarmac or at the carousel.

The second thing I need help with is purchasing a commuter pass for the Tokyo Metro. Besides walking everywhere, I'll also be commuting to school and back using the train. I'll actually be living pretty far from Sophia's campus and will need to take the train everyday. The Tokyo Metro offers reduced priced commuter passes to students that last up to six months (I'll only be there for five months, but I can get a refund on the last month before I leave the country). The upfront cost of a six month student pass is 21,770円 or approximately $200, 電車の切符もともと高いですよ!(Train tickets are also very expensive!)

As you can see, some of the basics quickly add up when temporarily moving to a different country. I even tacked another $100 on to the fund raiser as a buffer just in case the prices of these items fluctuate and for the expense of Fundly's campaign fees. I would be extremely grateful for any help I can get with the not so pleasant financial aspect of this endeavor. Please share this campaign if you can! I also have an Amazon wish list set up for some small travel items, such as: voltage converters, luggage tags, etc. It's a little short right now, but I'll a few more thing every once in a while.
