My name is Carly Baggott and I am a senior at Bucknell University. Last year, I had an amazing opportunity to work with Middle-Eastern refugees during my time studying abroad in Athens, Greece. I am working with Professor Stephanie Larson and a fellow Bucknell student, Kendall Cowie, to run a fundraiser to raise money for the refugee camp where I volunteered during the semester. These families are currently living in an abandoned school in Athens while they go through the long process of seeking asylum status. At this shelter, we helped organize donations and interacted directly with the refugee families, leading the children through soccer, English tutoring, and daily arts and craft activities. 100% of all funds will be sent to lead volunteers at this camp so that they can supply food and drinking water to the many families that live there. All of the food the camp receives is funded by outside donations, which have recently been in very short supply.

Our goal is to raise $1000 by March 5th for Professor Larson to deliver to the camp herself when she visits Athens in early March, but we will be continuing to accept donations through the end of March. Despite the heart-wrenching stories we have heard of the horrors and dangers of the status of refugees and their journeys to seek asylum, we have found success in previous fundraising efforts. While still in Greece, we worked directly with a family that had a heartbreaking journey from Syria to Athens, losing all four of their children in the bombings in Aleppo whose bodies were never recovered in the aftermath. The money raised helped the family finalized their asylum paperwork and assisted them in the purchase of plane tickets for themselves and their 3 young babies out of Greece.

We would greatly appreciate any and all donations, no matter the size, to help other families who are in desperate need of money for food, water, cleaning supplies, etc. I know a lot of people are interested in helping with the Syrian refugee situation, and this is an easy and incredible way to make a huge difference for some really incredible families. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at Thank you in advance!
