Scuola Creativa is a full-day childcare program for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers based in Royal Oak, Michigan. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to education, Scuola Creativa partners with children, families, and the community to provide an inquiry-based education for young learners. Access to affordable, high-quality childcare is an essential element of a thriving, resilient community. Childcare continues to be extremely expensive for working families with long waitlists due to staffing shortages. As of June 2022, “a cumulative statewide waiting list includes at least 54,057 children.” Oakland County alone has waitlists longer than 5,000 children.
Scuola Creativa is facing this ongoing problem head on by expanding to another building, providing two additional classrooms, with hopes to open doors by January 2023. We are looking forward to raising the funds for the remainder of the project to complete the expansion and hire talented educators to staff the classrooms.
Right now, your donations will be matched up to $5,000. It’s the perfect way to kick off the season of giving.
Core values important to the Scuola community include:
Image of the child as competent, curious, full of knowledge and potential, with a great capacity for experiencing the world
Time outdoors, in all kinds of weather, offers valuable learning opportunities
Cooperation and collaboration among staff, with families and children
Children, families and staff are all deserving of respect and have rights
Diversity (in EVERY sense of the word!) makes for a richer learning environment
Anti-Bias Education and self-reflection are critical to our individual/collective growth
Continuity of care from home to school, from infancy/toddler years through preschool
