Update #7

With great sadness I must report that around 1:30 PM today our dear friend Norm Chambers passed away at home, surrounded by his loved ones. Norm was a brilliant composer, sound designer and musician. He was an ardent, lifelong record collector, DJ and listener. Norm was also a talented graphic artist and designer. He was a true outdoorsman—enjoying hiking, cross-country skiing and camping. He adored his dogs. Above all, Norm was an ever-loving partner to his wonderful wife Kayoko.

It was Norm’s music, and records more generally that brought me to know him some 15 years ago. I’m deeply and truly grateful for having made that connection. He relentlessly pursued new pathways and forms in sound, but did it in such a relaxed and unassuming way. It will always serve as a model to me on how to approach art and life in general. Even as he faced serious health issues, he continued to do what he loved with good humor and grace, and he never gave up. Everyone loved Norm’s early music, but he was never satisfied to go on repeating himself; always searching for unknown and fascinating terrain. I’ve learned so much from him, and am proud to have called him my friend.

From the bottom of my heart and on behalf of Norm and his family, I thank you all for your support. I loved Norm very much and I know you did too.

Update #6

from Norm's colleagues at Bastyr Center:

Norm Chambers, our colleague, friend and renowned composer, whom you may know for keeping the facilities at Bastyr Center for Natural Health up and running and in tip-top condition is currently in need of our community’s continuing support. Norm has been fighting a rare form of sinus cancer for a number of years and has recently had to transition to hospice care. Any help would be greatly appreciated to assist with expenses at this time.

Update #5

Norm has finished his radiation treatments and has only one round of chemotherapy to go. It's been a tough process but Norm has weathered the storm admirably. As this last round of treatment begins our fund period ends--however if a friend of Norm's has been unable to contribute there's still a few days to do so. Any contribution is helpful.
Norm and his family appreciate your easing some of the financial burden of his treatment through this fund. Thanks to you our goal has been met! Your messages of support mean a lot. Norm has really been astonished by the massive outpouring of aid and encouragement, and it's helped carry him through a difficult process. We look forward to the end of treatment and with all hope a cancer free Norm in 2020!

Update #4

Good news, looks like the insurance will indeed cover Norm's radiation treatment! Of course there are many other costs to be covered and we're grateful for everyone’s support.

Update #2

It's great to see Norm regaining his strength as he recovers from surgery. He's been on his feet a bit more and even been able to take a few short walks. Now Norm is well enough to move on to the radiation part of treatment. It'll be time consuming and exhausting, but necessary to make sure he's cancer free in the future. It is physically and logistically impossible for Norm to work during all of this and insurance can't cover his many expenses. We're happy to have reached the initial funding target but any additional contributions would help him immensely. There's still over a month to contribute and help ease the burden of recovery. Norm and his family are grateful for all your encouragement and support thus far on his journey to wellness.

Update #1

Happy to report Norm is at home resting after a successful sinus/brain surgery. He’ll be recovering for six weeks and then ready for the next round treatment to make sure all the cancer is gone. During that interval we’re hoping to push Norm’s cancer fund total to $15K. I have no doubt that’s attainable given the incredible outpouring of support thus far. Norm still has a long way to go on this journey and can use any help we provide along the way.
Thank you all for your contributions!! There are still a couple months to go on this fundraising campaign so please help us spread the word on social media and beyond!
