My mom was dropped from her insurance days before experiencing an insanely painful ventral hernia tear and now requires surgery immediately. She needs to raise $4000 before heading to the operating room.
And she is off (and looking fabulous of course)! Thank you all for your well wishes and support. We have enough right now that she can pay the hospital half up front and set up a payment plan for the rest. We are so grateful!
Her Version of the Story:
I decided in August to drastically cut my living expenses and start saving to move out west. I'm a small business owner who recently started to see profit, but soon after that happened, Medicaid dropped my health insurance (as of October 1st). On October 7th I had no choice but to go to the ER due to severe abdominal pain. It turns out that the reason for my pain was because some internal tissue had ripped through my ventricle hernia, which I have had since childhood. Unfortunately, I now have no medical insurance and need a surgery that costs approximately $4000. I've since looked into national health care, but every policy I can afford has a $5000 deductible. This means I have to come up with $4000 to pay for surgery, and even after spending $4000 I will need to spend another $1000 before insurance will step in at all. If you are able to help in any way it would really help me to get out from between this "rock and a hard place".
My mom has been through an incredible amount recently regarding her health and this is the first time I have ever been able to convince her (being the hard-headed/strong/independent woman that she is) to reach out for help. This is really a terrible situation that is experienced by far too many people due to gaps in the healthcare system. Please help out if you are able.
