My name is Maral. I am a daughter, wife and mother but I am also an Afghan-American. When I was 7 years old I lived in Kabul, Afghanistan. One night my parents woke me up and told me in we would be going to Pakistan because the Taliban had invaded our country and girls were no longer allowed to attend school. My parents who were educated and advocates for women's rights could not bear the thought that their daughter should grow up to be illiterate. We went to Pakistan, taking 2 suitcases which were later stolen at the bus stop and then a few years later to America where I studied and thrived.
Now I feel it is my responsibility to help another young girl study and thrive. My sister in law, who is only 21 and until a month ago, who was a university student, no longer has a future in Afghanistan. The Taliban are against her very existence because they see women as unworthy of any respect or acknowledgement. My father in law, who is heavily affiliated with US based NGOs because of his work, is also in grave danger and I am afraid he might be fatally harmed by the Taliban If I do not help him in time. My mother in law, who is a heart patient and in need to see a qualified doctor, is losing hope and at the same time her health is declining.
So today I am requesting that we put aside our differences and come together for the sake of humanity. Please send a positive thought, a prayer and if you can, a contribution so we can save a nation.. one family at a time.
