Micah survived a catastrophic stroke in May 2018. Since then, he has worked non-stop to improve his health and recover his abilities. Originally, he was hemiplegic, in a wheelchair, unable to eat or breathe on his own. Now, he is walking, breathing & eating without assistance and starting to use his right arm! The only thing holding him back is his voice.
Another side effect of his stroke was aphasia--a language disorder that affects your ability to speak, read and write. Micah is a very diligent worker with a goal to go back to work. So, he practices all of the time on his speech and sees an excellent therapist twice a week. She is so impressed with his progress, that she believe he can get back to baseline if given enough time and therapy.
But there's the rub.
Our insurance policy only allows for 20 visits per calendar year. Those ended very quickly with the start of 2019. To continue his rate of recovery and give him the optimal chance at gaining his speech back, he needs to continue his speech therapy. The out of pocket costs for our family will be around $400.00 extra per month. And as you can imagine, disability pay does not allow much wiggle room in the monthly budget.
He wants to work.
He wants to speak.
He wants to read and to write and to do everything he used to do.
With the help of caring people, like you, Micah has the chance to get back everything the stroke took from him.
Thank you so much for considering helping Micah to get his voice back!
