Inverted New York was born in Brooklyn, NY in May of 2017. This unique fashion brand is based around the principle of “upcycling”.

“What is upcycling?”, you might ask.

To upcycle is to reuse and repurpose material in order to create a product of higher quality or value than its original form.

The idea started after recognizing a global necessity for sustainable fashion. Many do not know, but there is a ton of textile waste on the planet.

Fabric can take hundreds of years to decompose, as it often remains taking up space in landfills for centuries. If we don’t recycle textiles, we need to make more clothes to replace the ones that have ended up in landfills.

The environmental impact of this is huge.

For example, producing enough cotton for just one T-shirt can use up to half a kilogram of pesticide, which can then get into waterways and have a detrimental effect on the health of wildlife. Not to mention, the natural resources needed for the manufacturing process!

It is predicted that 235 million items of clothing will be sent to landfills over the next year. This equates to throwing away £140 million worth of perfectly good wearable items. One very disturbing fact for fashion-lovers is that clothing has the 4th biggest impact on the environment after transport, housing and food, causing 10% of all global carbon emissions. Of all the textiles taking up space in landfills, 85% are products from the fashion industry.

A wild thought, right?

Well, that’s why I started my brand.

My one-of-a-kind pieces give new life to dead clothes.

Who am I?

I’m a Venezuelan costumier fashion designer. I dress artists, singers and actors for shows, videos, Red Carpet ,TV, etc.

I made the decision to leave my country about 6 years ago. With a heavy heart, I accepted that the situation in Venezuela - my beautiful motherland - was only going to get worse. I knew staying there would not allow me to pursue my vision.

So there I was, with my luggage, my dreams, and $2,000 in my bank account. And there was New York, waiting for me. But let’s just say, I was NOT ready for New York!

It was hard in the beginning. First and foremost, I had to learn the language, if I wanted to find a job. But I did it, and I found a wonderful job. I was a true workaholic, working 6 days a week, for 5 years. I took all the money I saved and developed my Inverted brand/cause.

Less than a year ago I moved to Miami, hoping to let Inverted grow to its full potential. I want to make an impact on the fashion industry, raise awareness about the environment, and teach people about the importance of sustainability - out of respect for our beautiful planet. I want to educate the fashion-lovers of the world about the benefits of sustainable fashion and why everyone should be more aware of this.

Fashion is beautiful, but let’s use it as a platform for serving this wonderful abundant planet that has given us the life we need to appreciate beauty at all.

Remember, any help is a big help!

Wishing you all the best, and thank you very much in advance!
