Hi, I'm an entrepreneur, and I wanted to share my story. I believe that to understand the business, you must first understand the motive behind it.
Firstly, I did not grow up knowing that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I wanted to be a doctor or a respectable member of society, helping people. I was very sickly as a child, and it was just me and my mom. I missed a lot of school and struggled with the fundamentals. I missed the lessons where students were taught how to sound out words, pronounce them, and read fluently.
I remember a time I had to fill out a questionnaire that asked for the occupations of my parents. I didn’t know what my father did—all I knew was that he stayed at home—but I didn’t know how to spell "stay." So, I asked my friend for help, and she said she wouldn’t spell it for me because it was something I should know how to spell. At the end of the school year, I barely passed my subjects, but my gracious teacher saw potential in me and decided not to make me repeat a grade. Looking back, I’m so grateful for that decision.
Despite the challenges, I excelled in school, got good grades, and was accepted into the top high school in my country. However, in high school, I had extreme anxiety, which caused me to sweat profusely every day. The only thing that kept me going was the belief that I would go to college and do great things with my life.
I got through high school and was accepted into many US colleges with scholarships. But when I stayed in the States with my mom and her new husband, he started abusing us, and eventually, he kicked us out onto the street. It took years for me to recover and find stability again. When I reapplied to colleges, I now needed a financial guarantor for my student loans, but no one in my family was able to help. I understood their limitations, but it was still a devastating setback.
Eventually, life introduced me to entrepreneurship, and for the first time in a long while, I felt like I had a purpose again. I started side hustles and eventually built a small business with my partner. We began with an online business but wanted to do more for the community by starting a physical business—a delivery service.
In my country, bulk shopping is the most affordable option, but it isn’t accessible to everyone. So, we formed a delivery service to bring people their monthly groceries at an affordable cost, right to their doorsteps. Everyone loved it, but it only took one bad moment to make it all fall apart.
We tried our best to keep our day jobs, but the business was booming and demanded all our time and energy. We put all our savings into buying a refrigerated delivery vehicle. However, on one of the vehicle’s servicing days, the mechanic kept claiming that more parts were needed. Every time, we paid for the parts, only for him to say the vehicle needed more work. He completely scammed us and wrecked the vehicle. We lost weeks’ worth of deliveries and had to refund everyone during the Christmas season.
This experience hurt us deeply and took a toll on the business. We had to sell the vehicle and are now starting over from scratch, on the brink of having nothing. It’s been hard to find a job, and I feel like my life will never amount to anything substantial. Why is it so hard to help?
I have so many ideas. I wanted to set up monthly giveaways for families and share them with the world. I also dreamed of creating custom snack packages, allowing anyone to purchase and try my country’s popular snacks. We still have a partnership with the bulk grocery provider. To continue making this service affordable for everyone, we need more resources for marketing. We need to attract customers who will purchase in bulk and keep them coming back to make the business profitable monthly.
We want to expand and become the exclusive grocery provider for luxury gated communities. I aim to create an exact delivery logistics system and workflow to ensure all items arrive on time for each customer, even with different drivers. There’s so much I have planned.
I am open to donations, advice, or a remote job. I am completely open to life’s blessings. Thank you for reading this post. They say you don’t invest in ideas—you invest in the person behind them. I ask that you invest in me.
