Help Me Get Home

Help Me Get Home

From Gabriel Gronowski

Last year I decided to move to Hawaii, and it was the best decision I ever made. Unfortunately my anxiety spiked and sent me back to California, trapping me here. I'm about to be homeless and desperately want to return.

Update #2

I'll unfortunately be homeless on March 1, just three weeks before my birthday. If I can't get back to the island by then, getting the money will become even more difficult as I have to find a way to feed myself and keep myself clean.

I was supposed to start a job at Safeway, which would have allowed me to get myself back home. Unfortunately they were like the DHA when trying to get EBT and insurance and yanked me around with emails so much that there's no chance it's going to happen. It wouldn't have been as big of an issue if I had access to a phone, but it's shut off so I can't be called by potential employers.

Update #1

If the pandemic has taught me anything, it's to appreciate the little things that we take for granted. Like security, financial stability, comfort, and just general happiness. In Hawaii I encountered something called the Aloha Spirit, and ever since I left I've been stuck with this hole in my heart. It's like when a long term relationship suddenly ends.

Growing up the way I did, and where I did, I had never experienced anything like what I felt in Hawaii. Like I was not only safe, and accepted by strangers, but I felt like I had finally found where I belong.
