More Info

Hi everybody! My name is Zoë, and I need your help.

Around Fall of 2019, I found out that I have a disorder called dermatillomania. Also known as excoriation disorder, or “the skin picking disorder”. It is a neurobiological, psychiatric disorder that is categorized as a BFRB (body focused repetitive behavior). It affects the way I live my daily life, and it weighs significantly on my mental health. I've lived with it for the last 10 years, but the severity of it has gotten worse since the pandemic started. Learning more about how it works has been incredibly disorienting because it is an under researched condition, but it has also brought a lot of awareness to how I life my life, and it’s opened up a new world of possibilities when it comes to how I treat it.

One treatment option that I’ve researched is a psychiatric service dog, which is different from an emotional support animal. This is a service dog that is specifically trained to mitigate my anxiety, as well as interfere with my excoriation behavior to help me become aware of what I'm doing so that my nervous system can be properly regulated. I have found an incredible dog trainer named Haley who specializes in training dogs for those who have BRFB’s. She will help find the right dog, as well as teach me to train my future dog for this job. This will be a very expensive process, and I am asking for your assistance in raising funds to jumpstart the process. This money will help me get started with paying admin fees, purchasing the dog, public access training, BFRB training, service dog vests/leashes, etc...

If you have made it this far, thank you for taking the time to read. Please consider donating if you have the means, and if not please share with your family and friends. This pup will be incredibly life changing for me.

- Zoë
